Family DentistryDo you need a family dentist?

A family dentist takes care of the whole family, from grandparents to toddlers. You have nothing to worry about if you and/or your child need anything from a root canal and dental implant to a simple tooth bonding or other family dentistry procedures. Your Eastpointe, MI, dentist, Dr. Peter Jost, offers his expertise to comfort the whole family.

Here are some of the family dentistry procedures he offers:

Root Canal: When a cavity is deep enough to infiltrate enamel and dentin, it reaches the nerve-rich layer of pulp, causing acute pain. Your dentist removes the pulp, cleans and disinfects the canal from bacterial remains, and seals the canal to prevent bacteria from entering.

Tooth Bonding: This procedure reshapes and closes gaps between teeth, as well as repairs chips and cracks with the use of a tooth-colored resin material.

Porcelain Crowns: The tooth-shaped cap is placed over natural teeth to reinforce them and restore your tooth's shape, size, and strength, as well as improve aesthetic appeal.

Teeth Whitening: Your Eastpointe dentist offers two types of teeth whitening methods so you can choose whichever is more convenient in your fight to eliminate dental stains:

  • In-Office Whitening: This technique uses high-concentration bleaching gels that aren't available over the counter and offers fast results. A protective barrier is placed over gums and tooth-root surfaces to protect them from the gel, then a plastic device, a retractor, holds lips and cheeks away from bleaching gel applied on teeth. The bleaching gel consists of hydrogen peroxide and whitens teeth in about an hour.

  • Take-Home Whitening: This is perhaps a more convenient method for busy individuals who can't make it to the dentist's office, but it will take longer, perhaps several weeks, to get results. This method involves your doctor making a custom-made mouth tray, one for the top and another for the bottom teeth. You'll fill those trays with teeth whitening gel then placed over teeth and left for an hour.

If you have any questions about family dentistry, don't hesitate to call your Eastpointe, MI, dentist today!
